The Open Day is designed to guide you through the basics of playing Crown Green Bowls under the careful instruction of our experienced members attending the Day.
You will have opportunity to:

* and see if you would like to know more about bowling
We have recently increased our range of club bowls. Meaning you will have the opportunity to try different size bowls whilst you learn [if you haven't already got your own].
Last year we attracted 20+ new members. Many attended the Open Day [which takes part at the beginning of the season].

The South Derbyshire League holds a Presentation evening each year to present the league and competition prizes. This was a great evening wit quizzes, a fantastic raffle and dancing. Prizes in the raffle this year included an Amazon Fire Tablet, and great many other prizes including your club subscription being paid for.
Linda Wheeldon [Senior Ladies 1st team captain] was presented with the trophy for winning their league [South Derbyshire Ladies - Division 1].
Runners up prizes were given to league runners up [i.e. promoted] :

Our End of Season Celebration and Final's Day was on Sunday 28th September 2025 (10.00 a.m.).
The club has had a very successful season and this was the day we met up with friends and fellow bowlers to chat, have breakfast, etc, whilst watching some good bowling with the finals of our internal competitions.
With over 40 people in attendance, good sunny weather, everyone certainly enjoyed the day!
A huge shout out to Digital Aerial Installations Ltd and Acam Technology Ltd, for supplying and fitting security equipment to our grounds. These companies have now helped secure both Allestree Cricket Club and ourselves. All sponsored by Acam Technology. Great to have such support in the community and both clubs are extremely grateful.
The club has 2 bowling greens, Derby City Council owned but the property is maintained and run by club members.
Both social bowling and league bowling is offered by the club during the season, which runs from the 1st April to the end of September.
At Allestree Bowls Club, we pride ourselves on being a welcoming space for both new and experienced bowlers.
Our community spirit is at the heart of everything we do, making it easy for newcomers to feel at home.
At Allestree Bowls Club, our aim is to provide a fun and welcoming environment for bowlers of all ages and skill levels. We strive to promote the sport of Crown Green bowling and help our members improve their game.
Both greens are open from 10.00 a.m. daily until dusk as long as there are no league games, which can take place in the afternoons and evenings. Greens availability will be posted on the noticeboard in the pavilion.
Members are entitled to a gate key to the greens free of charge, a pavilion key is available from the club secretary on request [a small one-off payment is required to cover costs].
Practice bowls, jacks and mats can be borrowed for use from the pavilion.
Non-members can bowl accompanied by a member [nominal cost per session is asked].
Tea/Coffee and biscuits are available from the kitchen area. This also applies to all non-playing persons attending a league match.
These are social competitions held on Sundays during the season and open to all members. They are a fun day starting at 11.00 a.m. and provide an opportunity to get to know more people in the club and for inexperienced players to learn from more experienced players in a relaxed atmosphere.
Crown Green Bowling in the UK is governed by the British Crown Green Bowling Association (BCGBA) and rules, regulations and general information can be found at www.bcgba.org.uk
Allestree Bowls Club (ABC) are affiliated to both the Belper & Mid-Derbyshire League and the South Derbyshire League and run several teams in both.

Prior to bowling for one of our teams a member needs to be registered with the BCGBA, a one-off lifetime fee of £15 is required for registration, which will be organised by the club secretary.
